Observed link quality

We are working with OFDM_ReferenceDesign_v04.  In file csmaMac.c, this comment is written..

""Additionally, there is a long packet mode
to test link quality. The MAC itself will
generate "dummy packets" and send them to
another node. Link quality can be oberved
on the LEDs without intervention from a
computer.""

Could you please clarify for what purpose, this 'link quality' is observed? Is there any parameter (in implementation) which is linked to this observed 'link quality' ?

Thank you.

Re: Observed link quality

You can add counters to the good/bad packet interrupt handlers to track link performance. The long packet mode transmits the same local packet (i.e. not from Ethernet) repeatedly. The received packet isn't useful for anything but debugging PHY/MAC parameters.
