Interoperability between MIMO KIT v1 and MIMO KIT v2

Hi,

I would like to know if there have been any problems reported regarding interoperability between WARP Nodes of different versions.  We have two nodes v1 and we are planning to buy some more, hence I'd like to know if it is wiser to buy nodes of the same version instead of moving to the new one. Thanks in advance.

Re: Interoperability between MIMO KIT v1 and MIMO KIT v2

A few thoughts:

-The Radio Board is the same between versions, so the RF interfaces are inherently interoperable.

-The FPGAs are of course different. You can't use the same .bit file to program both kits.

-We maintain the WARPLab and OFDM Reference Designs for both hardware versions. There are separate XPS projects for each hardware version, but the architecture of each is very similar. The reference C code is the same for both hardware versions (with a few #ifdef blocks for version-specific hardware features).

-Ultimately the "right" answer depends on your needs/preferences. If you want to use a single XPS project for all kits, you want v1. On the other hand, if you want to use the newer hardware features (bigger FPGA, 1Gb Ethernet, DRAM, etc.), you'll want v2.
