802.11 reference design

i am creating sdk workspace using Mango_802.11_RefDes_v1.7.7 (reference design). if i use SVN revision 6296 insted of 6293 for v1.7.7 will it cause any problem?

Re: 802.11 reference design

You should use the C code included in the reference design archive (equivalent to svn rev 6293 for v1.7.7). The C code in SVN is under active development and is not guaranteed to work with the public hardware projects.

Re: 802.11 reference design

For creating sdk workspace i am following steps mentioned in https://warpproject.org/trac/wiki/802.11/Usage/SDK. for repository settings i followed steps in  https://warpproject.org/trac/wiki/edk_user_repository. after launching sdk i am getting following errors

Re: 802.11 reference design

What version of the Xilinx SDK are you using?

The 802.11 Reference Design for WARP v3 requires SDK 14.4, part of the Xilinx ISE 14.4 tools. The design will not work with other SDK versions.

Re: 802.11 reference design

I do not believe the log output above is being printed by SDK 14.4. The references to xsdb, hsi::open_sw_design, "BSP Project P/wlan_bsp_cpu_high has been successfully migrated.", etc., are consistent with a newer (Vivado) SDK. ISE/SDK 14.4 is the only supported tool version for the 802.11 Reference Design on WARP v3.

Re: 802.11 reference design

By following steps in http://warpproject.org/trac/wiki/WARPLab/QuickStart and using m code file we have generated and transmitted ofdm signal from warp v3 board. we observed that transmitted signal on spectrum analyzer. we get peak at 2.4 GHZ.
now instead of using mcode i have programmed fpga on warp v3 board with 802.11 reference design by following steps in http://warpproject.org/trac/wiki/802.11/Usage/SDK
but i am unable to observe ofdm signal on spectrum analyzer. why? After programming fpga with 802.11 design is ofdm signal generating on the board? to observe the signal do i need to follow any additional steps?

Re: 802.11 reference design

If you need an 802.11 node to transmit at high duty cycle, you will need to provide a source of Tx traffic. You could use Local Traffic Generator (LTG) flows via the wlan_exp framework, or connect the node's ETH A port to an Ethernet network and send high rate multicast flows.

Re: 802.11 reference design

You need to spend more time studying the documentation and searching around the web for other resources (for example, the WARP project is not the only resource for determining what a .bit file does on a Xilinx FPGA). This forum is not a good fit to ask every small question you may have as you learn the tools and the project.

Regarding the spectrum analyzer question, it depends on your spectrum analyzer. Many allow external triggering which may allow you to trigger the analysis on the transmission signal in the debug header. Others allow energy-based triggers, which would realize a similar behavior without the need for an external wire. Finally, analyzers that offer no triggering might require a high duty cycle in order to show the spectrum.

Re: 802.11 reference design

i have to observe ofdm signal generated on the warp board after programming fpga with 802.11 design. log_capture_continuolus.py  contains nodes tx and rx events so if i plot  log_capture_continuous.py  will i able to observe the ofdm signal???

Re: 802.11 reference design

log_capture_continuous.py configures a single node as a receiver. This is not a good example to use if you need a node to transmit.

While doing Channel Estimate Viewer example i am getting following errors. Are these errors because of the python software version i used??? i downloaded the software from http://warpproject.org/trac/wiki/802.11 … ngStarted. how to resolve these errors?

This is a known issue with the latest version of numpy - please see this post.

This issue was solved but when i run ofdm_chan_est_viewer.m all received entries are FCS bad entries(100%) and i am unable to get magnitude plot also how to resolve these?

Re: 802.11 reference design

I executed log_capture_two_node_two_flow.py several times to check whether the no of receptions from node changing every time or not then after some time i got following error how to resolve it?

(base) C:\work\Python_Reference\examples\chan_est_viewer>python chan_ests_to_HDF
5.py sta_two_node_two_flow_capture.hdf5
Reading log file 'sta_two_node_two_flow_capture.hdf5' (  0.4 MB)

Re: 802.11 reference design

Code:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "chan_ests_to_HDF5.py", line 73, in <module>
    most_rx = max(num_rx)
ValueError: max() arg is an empty sequence

The error is clear - the 'num_rx' variable is empty in your code, so 'max(num_rx)' can't do anything. Those log processing example scripts assume you start with a log file that contains a nonzero number of receptions.

Independent of the channel viewer, you should verify that your hardware does receive good FCS packets. If you are able to run the AP demo and successfully connect to it with another Wi-Fi device, then it's clearly able to receive good FCS packets. From there you'll need to move back to the channel viewer example and try to track down why you are not seeing any good FCS entries.

You haven't given us enough information to help you. You need to clarify what "unable to get magnitude plot" means.

is it possible to add a new block before ifft block in ofdm transmitter(wlan_phy_tx_pmd) in 802.11 reference design?
