SW development

Hi.

Have you guys/girls tried the software-intrusive profiling let say for the ref_design on a HW target i.e. warp ? Link for it   http://toolbox.xilinx.com/docsan/xilinx … target.htm

Another question concerning software debugging.  Have you used XMD-> GDB (GUI)  in XPS 10.3. Does it work ? Some earlier XPS versions it sucked.

Any comments on using XPS SDK for MAC development ? What are pros and cons vs. basic XPS?

In more general do you guys/girls run Xilinx tools with Linux or Windows OS.  Any benefits using Linux ?

thanks,
HT

Re: SW development

We haven't use the software profiling or the debugger. Most of the bugs we face are related to hardware/software interfaces (usually signals in/out of the PHY), so we rely heavily on ChipScope and oscilloscopes tied to the FPGA board's digital outputs.

We tried the SDK many versions ago and found it to be enourmously frustrating. It might be better in v10.1, but we haven't tried it.

We run the Xilinx tools in both Windows and Linux. We use a 64-bit Linux machine to build the OFDM reference designs, but only because our fastest machine already had Linux installed.
