Question about SNR

Hi All,
I am using OFDM ref. design 14 and I am interested in per sub-carrier SNR so I went through this earlier post (http://warp.rice.edu/forums/viewtopic.php?id=649) , but I am little bit confused that how can we calculate per sub carrier SNR by just using channel estimates ?

don't we need data and pilot symbols values to calculate noise and signal strength ?

Thanks

Re: Question about SNR

It is assumed the noise level is common across subcarriers, so SNR can be determined using just a per-subcarrier channel estimate. The AGC gain choice must be factored in as well. The PHY operates on post-AGC I/Q, so the actual received power level for a given subcarrier needs to be scaled by the gain applied by the radio as chosen by the AGC.
