Timer peripheral

Hi,

There is a timer unit on the power pc processor.  Is there any reason why another timer component is created as an opb peripheral for this project??

Regards,

Re: Timer peripheral

The custom OFDM timer included in the reference designs has inputs that allow for real-time pausing and restarting based on channel energy conditions taken from the packet detector. This allows near-automatic carrier sensing in our MAC layers, since backoff timers simply pause during busy events in the channel. We needed a timer that could do this quickly and without complex interactions with the PPC. That's the only reason we have a separate peripheral for this function.
