Connect two radio boards

Hi!

Is it allowed to connect two radio boards of two different warp boards directly with the help of a cable. I do not want to use the antennas, because I want to make measurements without the radio channel and afterwards with the radio channel.

Thanks for your reply!

Cheers,
Dominik

Re: Connect two radio boards

You can definitely use a coax cable in place of antennas, but you need at least 30dB series attenuation to avoid damage to the receiver's LNA.

ok but how should i achive the 30db attenuation? in the simulink model that I factorize the output with 1000?

Re: Connect two radio boards

It's much better to use passive attenuators in series with the RF cable. See Digikey and Farnell for examples (you can use multiple attenuators in series). The key specs are attenuation (XdB), impedance (50Ω) and frequency (depends on your application, either >=2.5GHz or >=6GHz). Attenuators with SMA male and female connectors are easiest, as they connect inline with the coax cable between radios.
