using USB to Serial Port adapter

I don't have any serial port on my laptop, so I was trying to use a USB to Serial Port adapter to get debug feedback from WARP. But I failed to find the correct serial port number in Tera Term. Does anyone have similar experience or have some idea? Thanks!

Re: using USB to Serial Port adapter

We're using a serial to USB adapter also, and we had to install some software that came with the adapter before the "com" port showed up.  If your laptop recognizes the port, it should show up under Right Click My Computer -> Properties -> Hardware tab -> Device Manager -> under the section Ports (COM & LPT).

Re: using USB to Serial Port adapter

I can see the serial port in Device Manager, but Tera Term doesn't show the port. Are you using Tera Term or any other terminal? Thanks!

Re: using USB to Serial Port adapter

We had a similar experience with a USB-serial adapter. We had to find the drivers for the USB-serial chip itself (it was Prolific 2303; drivers here). After installing the drivers, the adapter showed up as COM3 in Windows and works great with TeraTerm.

Re: using USB to Serial Port adapter

Mine shows up in Windows as COM27. I don't know why it's assigned such a big number. Does TeraTerm only recognize COM1 to COM4?

Re: using USB to Serial Port adapter

I changed that port to COM2 and it seems working now.
